For any fantasy team, starting the right players is unsurprisingly the key to success. This is especially true in the immensely popular daily leagues, where one player can mean the difference between a big payday and massive disappointment. Based on matchups and talent, the following five players could all be in for an excellent day on May 28 and deserve your utmost consideration.

Davis is the 13th ranked outfielder on ESPN's player rater. Not bad for a guy who was supposed to be part of a platoon coming into the season. His average has dipped quite a bit in May, but he's still scoring a ton of runs and swiping enough bases to remain valuable for fantasy purposes. He faces Scott Kazmir of the Oakland Athletics today, whom Davis owns a .467 career average against, including four extra-base hits in 15 at-bats.

This ever-reliable left fielder continues to provide solid production on a nightly basis. He's hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games, and is coming off an outstanding evening against the New York Yankees. He may just make it two great nights in a row when he faces the same team and starter Hiroki Kuroda. Holliday has a .423 average off of him in 26 career at-bats, including four extra-base hits.

3. DH Victor Martinez, Detroit Tigers

V-Mart is still showing no signs of slowing down, as his average now sits at .378 in May with eight HRs. He's hitting .442 against left-handed pitching this season and luckily for him, he will face a lefty tonight. While Scott Kazmir seems to be enjoying a career resurgence for the A's this year, Martinez has always owned him as he sports a .500 average against the lefty in 20 career at-bats.

2. 3B Pablo Sandoval, San Francisco Giants

The good times just keep on rolling for the Kung Fu Panda. He's put that dreadful start of his far behind him, and is now hitting .377 since May 11 with five HRs and 17 RBIs. He's had quite a few nice pitching matchups lately, and today will be no different. In 13 career at-bats against Chicago Cubs starter Edwin Jackson, Sandoval has managed seven hits, including a HR and two doubles.

After a scorching hot April which saw him hit .337, Gonzalez has come back to earth a little with a .227 average in May. He has a great shot of getting back on track today though against the Cincinnati Reds. Not only has projected starter Homer Bailey really struggled this year with a 5.34 ERA, but Gonzalez is hitting .476 off of him in his career with five HRs in 21 at-bats.
