For any fantasy baseball team, starting the right players is unsurprisingly the key to success. This is especially true in the immensely popular daily leagues, where a single player can mean the difference between a big payday and crushing disappointment. Based on matchups and talent, the following five players could all be in for an outstanding day on June 12 and deserve your utmost consideration.

5. 3B - Carlos Santana: Cleveland Indians

It's been a disastrous season to this point for Santana but he seems to be righting the ship. He's hitting .344 over his last nine starts, including two HRs and nine RBIs during that stretch. The Indians face lefty hurler Jon Lester today, and he's struggled in his last four contests to the tune of a 5.82 ERA. Santana is also hitting 66 points higher against left-handed pitching this season.

4. OF - Curtis Granderson: New York Mets

This left-handed bat tends to be streaky, and that's happening in a good way right now. Granderson is hitting .393 over his last eight games, and he has a good chance at continuing the magic tonight. He'll go up against starter Kyle Lohse this evening, and in his career Granderson has managed a .471 average against him, including two HRs in 17 at bats.

3. P - Zack Greinke: Los Angeles Dodgers

With an impressive 2.62 ERA and 10.14 Ks per nine innings, Greinke makes for a smart play most of the time. He makes for an even smarter play today, as he'll face a Cincinnati Reds team that ranks 29th in the league in runs per game. Greinke just beat these guys at the end of May by allowing three earned runs while striking out 11 in 7.2 innings, and something similar to those numbers should be expected in this one.

2. 2B - Jose Altuve: Houston Astros

After tweaking his oblique on Tuesday, the Astros second baseman is scheduled to be back in the lineup today. That's of course excellent news, and I recommend plugging fantasy's No. 1 2B into your lineup. He'll face left-hander Wade Miley tonight, and that's more good news. Not only is Altuve hitting .408 against lefties this year, but right-handed bats are hitting 84 points higher than lefties against Miley.

As expected this slugger is having an exceptional season, but he's gone into beast-mode of late. He's hitting .379 over his last eight games and has chipped in three HRs, 10 RBIs and seven runs scored over that stretch. Matchups don't get much better than today's for him either. He faces starter Scott Feldman, and to go along with a 5.40 home ERA, he's allowed 26 runs in his last 22 innings pitched.
