Fantasy Baseball 2014: SP Streamers for July 3

Streaming starting pitchers can be one of the most effective strategies in fantasy baseball. There aren’t a ton of great streaming options on July 3, but there are two guys who I think are intriguing.

Matt Shoemaker vs. Houston Astros

Shoemaker got rocked in his last start (eight runs and 11 hits in just four innings), but outside of that ugly outing, he’s been very good for the Los Angeles Angels since entering the starting rotation. He had given up three runs or fewer in all of his starts entering last Friday’s.

On Thursday, Shoemaker gets to face an Astros offense that has really struggled to hit right-handed pitching this season. Their .298 wOBA is 25th in baseball, .299 OBP is 27th and 23.8 strikeout percentage is the second highest.

Vance Worley vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Worley has been solid since making his season debut back on June 15. In three starts, Worley has a 1.74 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP to go with 12 strikeouts over 20.2 innings. So far it looks like Worley is really turning to his two-seam fastball and his slider more — and his four-seam fastball and cutter less — and so far it’s paid big dividends.

The Diamondbacks’ offense has been middle-of-the-road all season long; their .256 average is 13th in baseball, as is their .310 wOBA and .141 ISO. On a day when there aren’t a ton of appealing streaming options, Worley is a guy you could consider.
