For any fantasy baseball team, starting the right players is unsurprisingly the key to success. This is especially true in the immensely popular daily leagues, where a single player can mean the difference between a big payday and crushing disappointment. Based on matchups and talent, the following five players could all be in store for an outstanding day on July 3 and deserve your utmost consideration.

5. 1B - Garrett Jones: Miami Marlins

This slugging 1B makes for a strong play whenever the Marlins face a right-handed starter, as 37 of his 38 extra-base hits have come off of them this year. That happens to be the case today, as Miami hosts Kyle Kendrick and the Philadelphia Phillies. On top of Kendrick's awful 4.80 road ERA, he's allowing left-handers to bat a lofty .333 to this point, including 21 extra-base hits in 165 at bats.

4. 3B - Pedro Alvarez: Pittsburgh Pirates

As with Jones, Alvarez is another guy you only want to consider when facing a righty. He's hitting 58 points higher against them thus far, and 21 of his 23 extra base hits have come in those matchups. He faces a weak right-hander today by the name of Brandon McCarthy, and I see good fortune in the cards. Not only does this fellow own an ugly 5.11 ERA on the season, but lefties are batting an impressive .319 against him.

3. OF - Yasiel Puig: Los Angeles Dodgers

This phenom is experiencing quite the power outage right now, as he's failed to hit a HR since May 28. I suspect a trip to Coors Field to face one of the game's weakest left-handers will get him going again. Colorado Rockies starter Franklin Morales sports a horrifying 5.75 ERA and 1.57 WHIP on the season, and he has allowed right-handers to bat .310 with a whopping 13 HRs on the year.

2. SS - Jose Reyes: Toronto Blue Jays

The switch-hitting Reyes has been swinging a hot stick of late, as he's batting an outstanding .368 over his past eight games. He's done the majority of his damage this season against right-handed pitching and will face one of those arms this evening. Sonny Gray will be that arm, and while he's having a strong season for the Oakland Athletics, he's struggled of late with a 5.50 ERA over his last six starts.

This southpaw is having yet another outstanding season, as he sports a solid 9-5 record to go along with a 2.90 ERA. He'll face a struggling St. Louis Cardinals offense today that ranks just 29th in the league in runs per game and have managed just six total runs in their last six games. In Bumgarner's first meeting with the Cardinals this season, he held them scoreless over seven innings, allowing just three hits and striking out 10.
