5 Fantasy Closers To Add This Week
The fantasy baseball season is rapidly approaching the midway point and that means we are getting into crunch time. To help you fill out your fantasy bullpen, here are the top-five free agent closers to pick up off the Week 15 waiver wire.
5. Zach Putnam, Chicago White Sox
5. Zach Putnam, Chicago White Sox
Putnam hasn’t exactly been lights out lately, as he has allowed an earned run in four of his last nine appearances. As of right now, though, Putnam seems to be the team’s closer, and every closer has value in deeper fantasy formats. He will be a roster spot as long as he holds onto the ball in the ninth inning.
4. Hector Rondon, Chicago Cubs
4. Hector Rondon, Chicago Cubs
Rondon took over the job in May and the veteran hasn’t looked back. He has 11 saves on the year and continues to get the call in the ninth inning. Rondon may suffer the occasional hiccup, but he has locked down the closer role in Chicago and has earned a roster spot in all fantasy lineups.
3. Jenrry Mejia, New York Mets
3. Jenrry Mejia, New York Mets
Mejia has been far from reliable since taking over as the closer in New York. He owns a 4.04 ERA and the right-hander is coming off his second blown save of the season. Luckily, he doesn’t appear to be jeopardy of losing his job anytime soon and will be have a pretty long leash considering the state of the team’s bullpen. If you need a closer, add Mejia as soon as possible.
2. Santiago Casilla, San Francisco Giants
2. Santiago Casilla, San Francisco Giants
The last two saves to be recorded in San Fran have come from Casilla. He has gotten through two spotless ninth innings and has managed to lower his ERA down to 1.08. Casilla appears to be the favorite to take over the closer role after the struggles of Sergio Romo, which makes him worth a roster spot in all formats.
1. Jake McGee, Tampa Bay Rays
1. Jake McGee, Tampa Bay Rays
Tampa may say they have a closer by committee, but McGee has been quietly taking over the job. He has recorded the last two saves for the Rays and McGee currently has a sizzling 1.16 ERA and 0.80 WHIP. He hasn’t allowed a run in over a month and seemingly cemented his job as the team's closer.
