2014 Fantasy Football: Is There Any Hope For RB Knowshon Moreno?

The Miami Dolphins seem to be learning the error of their ways quickly before the NFL regular season has even started. The team was foolish enough to bite on running back Knowshon Moreno in free agency and offer him a contract.

The good news for the Dolphins is that they only signed Moreno to a one-year deal so they’re not on the hook long-term. Most teams were wise enough to stay away from Moreno during the free agency period. Moreno has been an injury-prone player throughout his career that never really put up spectacular statistics.

Last year, Moreno exploded and became a  fantasy football stud during his contract year.  Towards the end of the season and during the playoffs, the Denver Broncos started to see the young Montee Ball start to assert himself a little more, which gave the Broncos confidence that they wouldn’t need Moreno going foward.

Miami hoped that when they signed Moreno that he would be able to capture the same form that he had last season, but already that idea appears to be in major doubt. The running back showed up to offseason work outs overweight and out of shape. He quickly appeared to losing his supposed No.1 role to Lamar Miller, however, he has sustained a knee injury and it looks likely that he will miss the entire preseason.

It has been reported that Moreno was walking around camp with ice packs on both his knees recently. For fantasy owners this should be a very ominous sign that you should stay far away from Moreno this season. Not being in the Broncos offense anymore is already one knock on his fantasy value, but the mishaps so far with the Dolphins don’t cast a positive outlook on Moreno’s fantasy value in 2014. Fantasy owners shouldn’t even think about grabbing the running back at this point.
