5 Pitchers Who Will Help You Win Your Daily Leagues On Aug. 8

Anyone that decided to go with Jon Lester yesterday wasn't disappointed with his outing. For those that chose Jordan Zimmermann, it was disappointing to watch his great performance go up in flames by the sixth inning. Thankfully, today is not yesterday and there is a new slate of pitchers to choose from. Let's look at the top five SPs tonight who shouldn't disappoint anyone that rosters them.

(Prices are based off FanDuel salary-cap leagues)

5. Hisashi Iwakuma - Seattle Mariners ($8,900)

Ever since the start of July, Hisashi Iwakuma has been extremely dominant by going 4-2 with a 2.15 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and a 8.2 K/9 rate. Additionally, his strikeout-to-walk ratio has been an incredible 15.3. There is some concern with the fact that the Chicago White Sox have been ranked fifth in wOBA over the past week and have been hitting better on the road lately. Regardless, Iwakuma is a safe pick tonight and definitely a top five choice.

4. Scott Kazmir - Oakland Athletics ($8,700)

Over the past month, Kazmir has gone 2-1 with an excellent 2.52 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a decent K/9 rate of 6.84. Additionally, his FIP of 2.74 shows that luck hasn't been the reason for his recent success. Many owners may be worried about his matchup tonight against the Minnesota Twins as they have been the best hitting team in baseball over the past seven days. Jon Lester was able to shut them down last night and I expect the same from Kazmir.

3. Madison Bumgarner - San Francisco Giants ($9,300)

Madison Bumgarner has been on a hot streak over the past month, as he has recorded a 2.70 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and an 8.1 K/9 rate while holding hitters to a .221 batting average. He's also enjoying a 17-inning shutout streak for road games and is pitching on the road tonight against the Kansas City Royals. I would have him rated higher, but the Royals strike out the least against left-handed pitchers. However, he is still a great option tonight.

2. Anibal Sanchez - Detroit Tigers ($7,800)

Ever since his arrival in Detroit, Sanchez has dominated the Blue Jays by posting a 2.70 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, .204 opponent BA and 7.4 K/9 over four starts. This includes a masterful gem on June 3 when he tossed seven shutout innings with five Ks and zero walks. It also helps that he gets to face a struggling Toronto team that's ranked 21st in team wOBA over the last seven days. If he gets the run support, this matchup should be an easy one for him.

1. Stephen Strasburg - Washington Nationals ($9,700)

Historically, Strasburg hasn't been the best against the Braves. He's also known to be a worse pitcher on the road than at home. However, he's recorded a 3.09 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 10.41 K/9 rate over the past month. Additionally, he's been suffering from some bad luck since his FIP has been 2.48 over that span. Luckily, Atlanta has been ranked 28th in wOBA over the past week and present a great matchup for Strasburg, making him the top choice.
