Fantasy Football 2014: 5 QBs Who Should Be On Your Do-Not-Draft List

The NFL regular season is right around the corner, and that means fantasy football drafts are about to start. With that comes the task of deciding who is worth drafting and who is not in order to make a winning team. Here are five QBs you should avoid in your upcoming fantasy drafts.

5. Matt Schaub

The Oakland Raiders traded for Matt Schaub this offseason to be their starter after he had a terrible year with the Houston Texans. Schaub won't be a good fantasy option this season because he doesn't have any strong targets to throw to, even if the Raiders are losing a lot. It seems like it is only a matter of time until Schaub will be replaced by rookie Derek Carr. I would stay away from Schaub in all leagues this season.

Alex Smith led the Kansas City Chiefs to one of the best records in the NFL last season, but he was not a good fantasy QB. Smith only had Jamaal Charles as a consistent target, and he would have been useless in fantasy otherwise. Smith is a good QB to lead a team like the Chiefs in a controlled offense where he doesn't have to throw much, but that in turn makes him a bad fantasy play. Stay away from Smith on draft day unless you're desperate.

3. Nick Foles

Nick Foles took over the starting job with the Philadelphia Eagles last season and lit the fantasy world on fire. However, he should cool down in 2014. Chip Kelly's offense is big-play oriented, and that mostly came in the run game. Foles is also missing his only good receiver from last year, DeSean Jackson. Unless other receivers step up, Foles won't be a top fantasy option this year. I'd let someone else waste a pick on him early.

2. Tom Brady

Tom Brady has always been a top fantasy pick for years because he was one of the best QBs in the game. Now Brady only has name value in fantasy. He was not in the top half of QBs in fantasy points last season, and that shouldn't change this year. The Patriots did not upgrade their receiving corps, and Brady won't have Randy Moss or Wes Welker to throw to. He should only be taken in the late rounds as a backup, but I wouldn't draft him at all.

Cam Newton has been one of the best fantasy options in the league since he entered the NFL with the Carolina Panthers. This season should be different. He is normally a stud with his rushing numbers and passing numbers, but he has no reliable receivers to throw to. Because of that, teams can focus more on his legs and shut him down this year. He'll still be valuable, but not where he'll be drafted.
