A consensus top pick among second basemen in fantasy baseball drafts this spring, Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia has simply failed to live up to the hype for most of the season. It may be a tough realization, but it is simply the truth.

Pedroia currently has an embarrassing .284 batting average through 119 games, which is well below is .300 career mark. His .345 On Base Percentage is also 20 points fewer than his career mark of .367. The four-time All-Star has struggled to see the baseball all season and the veteran has continued to underachieve across the board.

Pedroia also missed Sunday’s contest with flulike symptoms. Luckily, though, it doesn’t appear to be too serious. He should be back in action on Monday, and if he isn’t, he won’t miss more than a day or two.

Luckily for fantasy fans, Pedroia has started to heat up this summer. He has a .339 average in 13 games this month to go along with a .371 On Base Percentage. He has scored 13 runs, racked up seven RBIs, and stolen two bases. He is finally producing like the top-tier keystone that he was drafted to be, and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Pedroia is starting to show signs of life as we head into the playoffs and the veteran will once again be a must-start from here on out.
