2014 Fantasy Football: Drafting QB Ryan Fitzpatrick Is A Joke

On disturbing trend currently occupying fantasy football drafts is the upward trend of Houston Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. He has also been a worthless fantasy option throughout most of career, but suddenly fans are starting to fall in love with the Amish Riffle again.

Regardless of this trend, though, Fitzpatrick is simply not a good quarterback. He is too careless with the football and will always be a turnover risk.

In his nine starts last season with the Tennessee Titans, Fitzpatrick averaged two interceptions per contest and fumbled the ball seven times (one lost). He also averaged an embarrassing 231.5 passing yards and 1.2 touchdowns per game, which was greatly exaggerated by his 402-yard, four-TD effort in the team’s Week 15 OT loss to the Arizona Cardinals. This alone should deter owners from drafting the journeyman quarterback.

Further proof can be witnessed in his 2014 preseason debut. Fitz finished the 32-0 shutout to the Cards by going 6-of-14 for 55 yards and two interceptions. He didn’t throw a single touchdown and averaged an embarrassing 3.9 yards per attempt. It was another vintage performance from the mediocre signal caller.

The team also has Case Keenum and Tom Savage on the roster, and my prediction is that Fitz won’t be starting for more than a few weeks. I think either Keenum or Savage will eventually win the job, which would once again push Fitzpatrick into the world of useless backup quarterbacks.

Of all the quarterbacks to circle on draft day, make sure to completely cross out Fitzpatrick’s name.
