For any fantasy baseball team, starting the right players is unsurprisingly the key to success. This is especially true in the immensely popular daily leagues, where a single player can mean the difference between a big payday and crushing disappointment. Based on matchups and talent, the following players could all be in for an outstanding day on Aug. 22 and deserve your utmost consideration.

5. 2B - Martin Prado: New York Yankees

It's been quite the struggle for this veteran since joining the Yankees, but his bat has been showing signs of life lately. Prado has posted an excellent .389 average over his last five games while he's chipped in a HR and four RBIs. He'll look to keep the good vibes going vs. left-hander John Danks today. Prado is batting an outstanding .368 vs. lefties this season, and Danks owns a vomit-inducing 8.43 ERA over his last six outings.

Adams got off to a slow start in August, but his bat has caught fire of late. The hefty lefty has posted four multi-hit efforts over his last seven games, resulting in a cool .344 average over that span. The Cardinals will host Kyle Kendrick and the Philadelphia Phillies this evening, and not only has Kendrick posted an ugly 6.14 ERA over his last 11 starts, but Adams is batting a lofty .332 vs. right-handers this year.

3. 3B - Aramis Ramirez: Milwaukee Brewers

Aramis "I'm dialed in" Ramirez has tormented opposing pitchers in August as he's batting .397 for the month with 10 multi-hit efforts in 18 games. The slugging third baseman has especially teed off on southpaws this year, and he will face a weak one tonight. Jeff Locke will oppose the Brew Crew, and to go along with a 5.11 ERA over his past six outings, right-handers are batting a solid .290 against him in 2014.

2. OF - Alex Gordon: Kansas City Royals

Speaking of dialed in, Gordon is currently enjoying his most productive stretch of the season. The left-hander is batting an impressive .367 over his last 14 games, and he has pitched in five HRs, nine RBIs and 12 runs over that span. Look for more of the same when the Royals take on Colby Lewis and the Texas Rangers. Lewis has posted a horrid 5.52 ERA on the season, and left-handers are batting an incredible .363 against him this year.

1. Doug Fister: Washington Nationals

Fister has been all that and a bag of chips in his first season in Washington with a 12-3 record to go along with a dazzling 2.20 ERA. He's been nearly unhittable of late as he's posted a remarkable 0.51 ERA over his last five outings. The Nats will host the San Francisco Giants this evening, and not only do the Giants rank just 21st in the league in runs per game, but they've already been shut out by Fister once this season.
