Philadelphia Phillies 3B Maikel Franco smacked 31 home runs in the MiLB in 2013 with 103 RBIs and an outstanding .320 batting average. He flew up fantasy baseball prospect rankings during the offseason, and as a result, the youngster was a popular target in dynasty leagues this spring.
Unfortunately, Franco has been stuck in the minors all season. He had a very poor start to the season and has been hitting under .250 for the majority of the season. Cody Asche has started at third for most of the year for the Phillies, but he is far from a polished product on the hot corner, as he has committed 14 errors in 93 games. The team has simply been waiting for Franco to heat up.
Well, that day appears to be now. Over his last 10 games alone, Franco has shockingly smacked five home runs. He has also drove in 13 runs over that 10-game stretch and amassed a .425 batting average. He has been putting All-Star numbers over the past few weeks and the 22-year-old has finally started to live up to some of the offseason potential.
Like most popular prospects, Franco will be called up any day now. He can still have an impact this season, but the young slugger’s true value comes in dynasty formats. He should crack the starting lineup at the start of the 2015 season and finally kick off his promising fantasy career.
