It seems for years now fantasy baseball owners have been waiting for Miami Marlins OF Giancarlo Stanton to finally breakout. Well, with 20-plus weeks already in the books, Stanton is not only having a breakout campaign, but he is the clear frontrunner for the 2014 fantasy baseball MVP.

Stanton is currently second in the majors with 33 home runs and he is only one homer behind leader Nelson Cruz (34). Stanton is also leading the entire league with 33 home runs, including three mutli-home run contests. Stanton even has the second-best WAR (6.5) in all of baseball, which is trialing only Josh Donaldson.

Even more telling is the numbers that Stanton has been putting together this month. In 23 games in August, Stanton has an amazing .329 batting average. He has also smashed eight home runs and racked up 24 RBIs. Stanton is carrying fantasy squads when it matters most.

The outfielder was one of the only first round picks that actually panned out this season. Big name players like Miguel Cabrera, Chris Davis, Paul Goldschmidt, Carlos Gonzalez, and Troy Tulowitzki have all disappointed across the board, while Stanton continues to hit bomb after bomb for fantasy fans.

Stanton is finally having that long overdue breakout fantasy season and the Miami Monster deserves to be named the fantasy MVP in 2014.
