Drafting Andy Dalton might just be the best move you make in the upcoming Fantasy Football season. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback isn’t a sexy pick come draft day, but he’s absolutely worth it.
Before the talk over his new $115 million contract, the Bengals quarterback received little to no national attention. At home in Cincinnati, all he receives is negative media. But what has the fourth-year quarterback done wrong to deserve this?
In his first three seasons, he led his team to the playoffs. No other quarterback has done this in NFL history. Sure, the Bengals lost all three times, but since 1990, the team had only made two other playoff appearances in total.
Sure he wins games, but Dalton isn’t a realistic fantasy option, right?
Matthew Stafford, Tom Brady, Colin Kaepernick and Tony Romo are four highly coveted quarterbacks who all finished the 2013 season with less fantasy points than Dalton, who ranked fifth among all quarterbacks. Not only is Dalton a decent option, but he’s one of your best options.
The Red Rocket has gotten better each year in the league and that progression doesn’t seem to be stopping. After inking his new six-year contract, Dalton has been dynamite so far this preseason, completing 70 percent of his passes for 372 yards and a touchdown. All signs are pointing in the direction of more than 4,500 yards and 35-plus touchdowns. Plus, in three seasons, he hasn’t missed a game.
What makes Dalton an even more intriguing draft pick is his average draft position. ESPN has him ranked as the 17th quarterback with an overall player ranking of 132. That’s behind most teams’ backup or even third running back.
Dalton is an absolute steal in this year’s draft when you consider the possibility of snagging a potential repeat top five quarterback in the 12th round. Don’t jump on your QB early. Max out on skill players and let Dalton be the icing on top.
Happy Drafting.
