2015 Fantasy Baseball Sleeper: OF Mookie Betts

Mookie Betts

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

While the Boston Red Sox 2014 season may be over, there is a lot to look forward to in 2015. The team made a lot of moves during the trade deadline and prepared well for the future. The player fantasy owners should be watching for next year and beyond is outfielder Mookie Betts.

The Red Sox called up Betts in late June, but was sent back down on July 19 after Shane Victorino came off the disabled list. He was recalled on August 18 and has been a shining star since. He has three home runs, eight RBI, three stolen bases and a .315 average since returning to the major leagues.

There were talks of Betts taking reps at third base for the struggling Will Middlebrooks, but that’s not the case. Betts is spending the majority of his playing time in the outfield. The Red Sox have a lot of players to fill three positions. Along with Victorino and Betts, the team has Yoenis CespedesDaniel NavaJackie Bradley Jr., and Allen Craig.

If the Red Sox can help themselves from sending Betts down every other week, then he has the chance to be a nice option in fantasy. He has shown power and speed over the last month and can be an OF4 at the least.

Betts is currently owned in 34.2 percent of ESPN.com leagues, with a huge increase of 31.6 percent. He is getting consistent playing time and is hitting at the top of the order. With the power he has behind him, Betts will get one base and steal a bag before crossing home.
