The 2014 NFL season kicks off tonight with the “Fail Mary” game part two. However, the bulk of the games will be played on Sunday. One matchup that will have fantasy football owners glued to their TVs is New Orleans Saints against the Atlanta Falcons. The way these games always turn out, owners should not shy away from starting Matt Ryan.

The Saints-Falcons rivalry has been entertaining over the last few years. Ryan and Drew Brees are two gunslingers that put up a lot of fantasy points and their receivers benefit from it, too. Ryan will have his two superstar wide receivers back as well. Julio Jones and Roddy White will enter Sunday’s game at 100 percent; something we haven’t seen for a while.

Ryan has put up great numbers at home and against the Saints. Since joining the Falcons, Ryan has a 73-29 TD-INT ratio at home with a 36-10 win-loss record. Against the Saints for his career, he has a 16-7 TD-INT ratio and 3,124 passing yards (the most versus any team).

The Falcons are one of the most pass-heavy offenses in the league. The team passed the ball 67 percent in 2013. If the offensive line can keep Ryan upright, he will have a successful game and put up at least 20 points. Even with the upgraded Saints defense, Ryan should be able to carve up the defense and rack up over 300 yards.

If I own Ryan, which I do in one league, I have no qualms about starting him this week. He will finish as a top-10 quarterback at the end of the season and it starts in Week 1.
