Fantasy Football Week 1 Buy or Sell: Justin Hunter

Should one start Justin Hunter in Week 1

When comparing Justin Hunter to Josh Gordon, the similarities are thought-provoking. They are only an inch apart in height, and have relatively the same leaping ability and speed. Both have a low-quality quarterback, adequate running game and had a quiet rookie year. The idea of playing him is alluring to some fantasy owners.

The idea, albeit justified, should not come to fruition, however. Hunter is behind Nate Washington and Kendall Wright on the depth chart, and won’t get much action as long as Jake Locker is the quarterback. He’s like Jerricho Cotchery was last year — he’s great to have on the team with his red-zone targets and touchdowns, but he won’t produce anything more than that. With that being said, you should either draft him in the last rounds of a draft or pick him up off the waiver wire and stash him. Using him as trade bait or for when a starting receiver has a bye week is an acceptable idea, but his matchup in Week 1 vs. a stout Kansas City Chiefs defense is not a good situation.

The Chiefs were a top 10 defense last year, and will battle the Denver Broncos for the No. 1 spot in the AFC West. Add on the fact that Hunter is the third wide receiver on the depth chart for the Tennessee Titans and it’ll lead to a dismal fantasy situation for owners. My advice to all owners would be to sit Hunter unless you have wide receiver or flex position problems.
