Fantasy Football Week 1 Start Or Sit: Kendall Wright

Wright in action

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

Kendall Wright, wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans, may have been their best player offensively last season, leading them with 94 receptions and 1, 079 receiving yards. He performed well for the Titans, but does that mean he should be counted on if you have him on your fantasy team? Should he be starting for you this week?

The answer is yes, start him, but be careful. Wright is definitely a featured player on the Titans offense so he should get a lot of looks. However, he has not performed well during the preseason with only four catches for 38 yards. Jake Locker struggles in targeting Wright mainly because Locker tends to be more creative out on the field and Wright seems to thrive more with quarterbacks who make short, quick passes. Wright may have to do some more adjusting to fit into that system and that could be a struggle during Week 1.

One reason, though, that starting him could be a good option is that the Titans are playing against the Kansas City Chiefs and wide receivers had very good success against Kansas City, averaging over 24 fantasy points per week. One statistic to look at is Wright had eight catches for 74 yards against the Chiefs last year, so that is promising. A player as gifted as Wright who had the season that he had last year could continue that trend and score some points for your team.

My feeling is start him, but do it carefully. Perhaps as a number three wide receiver or a flex option. After this week, check the matchups and plan accordingly.
