Week 1 Fantasy Football: Don’t Start WR Danny Amendola

In Week 1 of the 2014 fantasy football season, WR Danny Amendola and the New England Patriots will travel to play the Miami Dolphins. In Miami last season, Amendola had a career game. He hauled in 10 balls for 131 yards and abused the division rival. Many are expecting a repeat performance from the former PPR superstar this Sunday.

Unfortunately, Amendola has a ton of competition for targets this season, including Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins, and the newly acquired Brandon LaFell. QB Tom Brady loves to spread the ball around and the number of receiving options on the team’s roster simply won’t leave many balls to go Amendola’s way throughout the season, starting in Week 1.

Even worse, Amendola has only played during three and four wide receiver sets this preseason and he is suddenly buried down the team’s depth chart. He won’t be on the field too often and the veteran could end up spending more time on this bench than on the field in Week 1, which isn’t very promising for his overall fantasy potential.

There are plenty of more reliable options out there than Amendola. He will be a very risky pick as a WR3, or even flex option this week, and it would be better to simply leave him on the bench.

Week 1 Prediction: 3 Rec., 37 YDS, 0 TDs
