In Week 1 of the 2014 fantasy football season, the Dallas Cowboys will face off against the San Francisco 49ers. The game will be a late afternoon affair and will draw a ton of attention in the fantasy world. Despite all the big names in the contest, one player that is an absolute must-start in all formats is Dallas QB Tony Romo.

Romo is coming off an incredible 31-TD season in which he threw over 3,800 yards with only 10 interceptions. For some reason, though, the football world simply doesn’t give Romo the respect he deserves and some owners are actually thinking of benching Romo against the legendary 49er defense this Sunday.

Luckily for Romo, this San Fran defense isn’t the same unit that it once was. The team obviously still has a strong front-seven anchored by Justin Smith and Patrick Willis, but LB Navorro Bowman has been placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list and Aldon Smith will start the year off with a nine-game suspension. They will be missing two of their best defenders in the season opener, and suddenly this San Fran defense seems very human.

I expect Romo to have another big game against his bitter rival. He should throw at least two touchdowns and 250 yards seems almost guaranteed for the three-time Pro Bowler. If you own Romo in any format, this is one week to keep him active no matter what.

Week 1 Prediction: 297 YDS, 2 TDs, 1 INT
