Fantasy Football Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickup: WR James Jones

WR James Jones has been one of the quietest sleepers in fantasy football for the past three years; after Jones caught three passes for 34 yards, fantasy owners should definitely consider picking up Jones off the waiver wire.

Jones is the Oakland Raiders‘ best receiving threat, and the former Green Bay Packer has shown signs of a breakout season as Derek Carr‘s primary receiving target. Don’t forget, Jones led the NFL with 14 touchdown receptions only two short seasons ago. His subpar 2013 season was due in part to mediocre quarterback play on the Packers due to Aaron Rodgers‘ injury, the emergence of Randall Cobb, Jordy Nelson and Jarrett Boykin, and injuries to Jones himself.

Although not a terrific receiver in terms of yardage, Jones is a touchdown machine. He’s a solid WR2 or Flex receiver in most 10-team leagues, and he should be played any time the Raiders play a team with a subpar secondary. Luckily for Jones’ owners, the Raiders’ division rivals, the San Diego Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs, both have exposable secondaries, which is good considering the fact that Jones plays those two teams twice each year.

The Raiders will play the Houston Texans in Week 2; look for the Raiders’ receiver to grab yet another touchdown pass and maybe 50 or 60 yards receiving as well. Sure, Jones isn’t the sexiest pick in the league, but he gets the job done — and that’s all that matters.
