Fantasy Football Week 3: Kirk Cousins A Smart Waiver Wire Pickup

The Washington Redskins were without their quarterback Robert Griffin III, who left the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after sustaining a non-contact injury. Kirk Cousins came in as Griffin’s relief and his performance was anything but underwhelming, especially from the fantasy football standpoint.

Cousins shined on the field as he finished the game completing 22-of-33 pass attempts for 250 yards. Cousins also threw for two touchdowns without any interceptions, which assisted the Redskins to a 41-10 victory over the Jaguars. That brings Cousins’ fantasy football points for Week 2 to a total of 17.90, which isn’t bad at all, especially since Griffin only posted 8.88 points in the first week.

Since Griffin’s injury, we have discovered that he suffered a dislocated ankle and could be out anywhere from eight weeks to several months. That means Cousins will be the Redskins go-to guy for now and a smart alternative to anyone (including me) who has Griffin on their fantasy team.

There has been chatter among analysts and fans about Griffin’s declining performance, so if you are one of the people who felt robbed after picking up Griffin, his injury and the chance to play Cousins could be a blessing in disguise for your league.

So far, only 0.5 percent of fantasy teams own Cousins, according to the NFL fantasy football application. That number will most likely climb drastically at the start of Week 3. If you are in need of another quarterback and make the decision to pick up Cousins, you are making a wise choice for your team.
