Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Pickup: QB Drew Stanton

In the event that Arizona Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is unable to play again this season, head coach Bruce Arians can bank on second-team quarterback Drew Stanton to assume the position with success.

Stanton hadn’t been called upon in regular season action since 2010, but that didn’t seem to ruffle his feathers at all. The eighth-year pro led Arizona’s huddle as if he had been there before. Stanton directed traffic along the line of scrimmage and helped the Cardinals to a signature win.

For fantasy owners who targeted Stanton as a handcuff in Week 2, the move paid off in spades. While he didn’t have jaw-dropping numbers when regulation had run its course, going 14-for-29 on his pass attempts for 167 yards with no touchdowns, Stanton did not turn the ball over and engineered an 80-yard touchdown drive to start the game.

Stanton definitely turned heads in the fantasy world, lighting up the board with six points against the New York Giants‘ secondary. He’s no Peyton Manning, but the man was nothing but absolutely clutch when the Cardinals made the call in Palmer’s absence. Stanton never balked, and his numbers against the opposition in Week 2 really don’t do him justice.

Fantasy GMs might want to consider rolling the dice a little more often on this young man. The kid can flat out get it done, and his game will make it difficult for owners to ignore in the upcoming weeks of regular season action.
