Fantasy Football: Mike Evans Week 3 Projection

Mike Evans

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently sit at 0-2, and much of the blame for their slow start falls on quarterback Josh McCown’s shoulders. Through two games McCown has only thrown for 362 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions for a 75.1 passer rating. It also doesn’t help that the two defenses they’ve faced are both in the top 12 in passing defense.

In Week 3, the Buccaneers take an Atlanta Falcons team that’s currently ranked 31st in passing defense and are allowing an average of 317 passing yards per game. The Buccaneers should fare much better this week as they look to get their first win of the season. A key component of the Buccaneers’ offense is rookie wide receiver Mike Evans, who should be in for a big game against a Falcons secondary that has had difficulty containing larger receivers this season.

The Falcons struggled to contain Marques Colston and Mohamed Sanu in Weeks 1 and 2, and given his size, Evans should be in for a big game.  Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 230 pounds, Evans is built like a tight end and presents a matchup nightmare for both linebackers and defensive backs. So far this season Evans only has nine receptions for 86 yards and zero touchdowns, but you can expect that to change in Week 3.

Currently owned in 84 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues, Evans presents a huge red zone threat that the Falcons defense will struggle to contain.

Week 3 Projection: 5 receptions for 75 receiving yards and a touchdown
