Fantasy Football Week 3 Projection for San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates

San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates put on an absolute show last weekend, and fantasy football owners should have no fear about playing him next week against the Buffalo Bills. The tight end impressed on Sunday with three touchdowns and 96 yards on seven receptions.

That’s not too shabby.

Reports of his decline are obviously quite false, which gives Philip Rivers a fearsome group of weapons to employ. You can tell that the quarterback appreciates Gates’ ability to think creatively on the run, which was the difference against the Seattle Seahawks.

“He doesn’t surprise me,” Rivers said to Fox News. “I will say all three touchdown catches, for the most part, didn’t come up exactly like they were drawn up.”

Against the Bills, Gates will not score three TDs, but he could get at least one to go along with about 70 receiving yards. You also never know when a little bubble screen will allow him to pick up a little rushing yardage.

The most amazing thing about Gates’ performance on Sunday was that he did it against the vaunted defense of last year’s Super Bowl team. The Seahawks are no joke at all and were my favorite at the season’s beginning to represent the NFC again. Now, I am starting to have my doubts about that prediction, which should tell you how much of a threat the Chargers truly are.

Fantasy owners are interested in results, and I cannot blame them for wanting advice about an older tight end. Do yourself a favor and start Gates.
