Week 3 Fantasy Football: Start RB Pierre Thomas

Pierre Thomas owners are salivating for week 3 of fantasy football to come. The super-utility back is in line to be a work horse for the New Orleans Saints.

Up to this point in the season, Mark Ingram and Khiry Robinson have seen more carries out of the backfield. Ingram is now sidelined with a broken hand and he will miss several weeks as a result. Thomas has served  as a good pass-catching option for Drew Brees and that offense. Look for him to not only increase his workload in the run game, but expect him to maintain his targets in the passing game as well.

Ingram may have frustrated any of you Thomas owners. He was given all the goal-line attempts and also had more carries than Thomas over the first two weeks, but Ingram’s injury has opened the door for Thomas to have a breakout fantasy performance.

The Minnesota Vikings are put to the task of stopping the Saints offense. Let’s be honest, the Vikings are going to be playing catch up for most of this game. Leave it to Thomas and Robinson to wind the clock down later in the game. The Vikings also feature the 16th ranked run defense in the league. Not a convincing matchup, until you think about the Saints offense. They are fifth and sixth in passing and rushing, respectively. I see big numbers for many Saints on Sunday.

Owners of Thomas already know of his PPR value. I keep him at a high ranked RB2 in PPR leagues. He’s a high RB3 or flex option in standard leagues, as well.

Verdict: Start
