Fantasy Football Week 3 Start or Sit: WR Cecil Shorts

Wide receiver Cecil Shorts has been a productive fantasy player in years past, but he hasn’t seen any playing time for the Jacksonville Jaguars so far in 2014. Shorts managed to catch 123 passes for 1,786 yards and 11 touchdowns over the last two years, but he has been limited to injury in the Jags’ first two games.

I personally drafted Shorts late in the draft in a couple of my leagues looking for a steal, but for now, Shorts does not look like a productive fantasy receiver. Despite the fact that he could return to action in Week 3, he will still likely have to shake off the rust and redevelop chemistry with quarterback Chad Henne. Hypothetically, Shorts could have a huge week against a mediocre Indianapolis Colts secondary, but I don’t personally see it happening.

I recently dropped Shorts in one of my leagues just due to the fact that there were more productive receivers on the waiver wire, and I suggest that you do the same.

However, if you decide to keep “CSI,” leave him on the bench this week. There are plenty of serviceable matchups this week, and Shorts still isn’t guaranteed to even see the field. He could be a productive receiver down the road in 2014; however, his matchup with Indianapolis in Week 3 does not look like a matchup that will produce a touchdown, or even 25 yards receiving.

There is no reason to play the Jags receiver this week; he could potentially have a good game if he actually sees the field and plays well, but the odds are just too unlikely for you to take the chance on the speedy Jaguars receiver in Week 3.
