Fantasy Football Week 3 Start or Sit: WR Greg Jennings

It seems odd that we’re now questioning Greg Jennings as a prominent wide receiver in the NFL. Just three years ago, he was with the Green Bay Packers and thriving as a top-10 option until his injury and eventual departure for the Minnesota Vikings. But that’s where he is, and now owners have him on their roster just hoping he can return to his glory days. Fantasy GMs might just get a taste of that glory this week with him if they start him.

Cordarrelle Patterson is listed as the WR2, but most people see him as their true WR1, leaving Jennings as the secondary target. Patterson has 12 targets to Jennings’ 11, so they’re pretty much the same. Why that is important is because the Vikings or going against the New Orleans Saints, which have been relatively weak against the WR2.

In their two games this season, the Saints have allowed double-digit points with a touchdown to both WR2s they’ve faced (Roddy White and Miles Austin). Against the WR1, they’ve allowed 16 points collectively. If Jennings is targeted and lines up more as a WR2 this week, he should be in store for another game with a touchdown and crossing the 10-point barrier. Plus, the Vikings won’t be as reliant on the rush with Adrian Peterson missing action for the second-straight week.

Lat week against the New England Patriots, Jennings was held to just one reception. But that was because he was lost on Revis Island. So don’t fret that Jennings is going to disappear this week; there’s no impending threat the Saints can use to shutdown Jennings, even if he isn’t in his prime and only has Matt Cassel as his quarterback. At the very least, I’d expect him to at least be worth six points this week with a touchdown. He’s worthy to at least be your flex option this week.
