Toby Gerhart Should Not Be in Your Fantasy Football Starting Lineup

Toby Gerhart has been one of the many disappointments this season out of the running back position, and don’t expect him to turn his season around anytime soon, especially this week as the Jacksonville Jaguars go up against the San Diego Chargers.

If you’ve been starting Gerhart for the past three weeks, you clearly don’t have any better options. Regardless, don’t make that mistake again as Gerhart is approaching drop territory. As mentioned, the Jaguars will be traveling to San Diego, and expect them to get down early against the Chargers’ high-flying offense. This alone will force the Jaguars to abandon their running game, which has been non-existent for the first three games.

Secondly, the Chargers are giving up 100 yards per game on the ground, which is good for 10th in the league. Pair that with Jacksonville’s putrid offensive line, and you have some bad news for Gerhart. The Jaguars’ offensive line has allowed 17 sacks this season, so if they can’t block for their quarterbacks, what makes you think they will block for Gerhart?

In three games this season, Gerhart has 34 carries for 82 yards and six receptions for 55 yards. Gerhart could be in store for a slight improvement this week, though, as Blake Bortles will be taking over for Chad Henne. Since Bortles provides a little more of an aerial threat than Henne, it could open holes up for Gerhart, but don’t expect anything substantial.

Gerhart should disappoint again this week, so avoid him at all costs if you can.
