Not many predicted the red-hot Atlanta Falcons to lose to the Minnesota Vikings, but they did just that thanks to a revitalized offense led by rookie Teddy Bridgewater.
Bridgewater surprised many with his decision-making and pocket awareness against the Falcons on Sunday. After three weeks of watching Matt Cassel fail to move the ball down the field, offensive coordinator Norv Turner finally made the decision to start Bridgewater, and the decision turned out to be a great one.
Although the Vikings’ defense leaves much to be desired, Bridgewater still had a pretty successful day in his debut. He completed 19 passes out of 30 passing attempts for 317 yards. Although he did not have passing touchdown, it should be noted that Bridgewater ran the ball five times for 27 yards and a rushing touchdown. He had a quarterback rating of 85.6, which is very good considering it was his first professional start.
Not only did Bridgewater play well, but this offense as a whole elevated its game. Adrian Peterson is still not with the team, but the combination of rookie Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata had a total of 213 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
The Bridgewater era has begun in Minnesota. Although this team will likely not make the playoffs, it is a fun time to be a Vikings fan and the main reason for that is No. 5. After seeing rookie quarterbacks like Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III flourish in their rookie seasons, it’s worth taking a flier on Bridgewater if he is available in your fantasy football league.
Despite being a rookie, Bridgewater is polished and he has the makings to be a very good NFL quarterback soon.
