Riley Cooper Faces Stiff Competition From Fellow Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Studs

Riley Cooper Fantasy Football Week 4 Start or Sit

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been a disappointing first three weeks in the NFL for fantasy football owners who drafted Philadelphia Eagles WR Riley Cooper. With Philly’s potent passing game that’s only ranked behind the Atlanta Falcons, Nick Foles has clearly made the most of his options. However, Cooper seems to be the odd man out.

With only nine receptions for 71 yards through three games, one would think that Cooper was a running back in this league. Ironically, running backs might be his biggest threat in the Eagles’ high-powered offense, because Cooper has to compete for targets with fantasy stud RBs LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles, who both have more catches than him with 10 and 14, respectively.

However, things get even more competitive when it comes to the Philadelphia’s true pass-catchers. TE Zach Ertz is currently in the top 10 among all fantasy TEs, and WR Jeremy Maclin is the third best WR in all of fantasy football right now, with three TDs and 16 receptions for 296 yards to his name.

To make matters worse, rookie WR Jordan Matthews is coming off a two-TD performance against the Washington Redskins in Week 3, so head coach Chip Kelly will probably look to get the rookie involved in the passing game more often. Matthews is a one of the bigger receivers on the team like Cooper, and if he continues to show promise, Cooper’s spot as the No. 2 WR on the team could be in serious jeopardy.

By default, Cooper is already doomed in Week 4 and he wasn’t even playing that well to begin with. Sit him against the San Francisco 49ers today, and at this point, it’s probably best to drop him from your team altogether.
