Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire: Heath Miller Should Be Added Without Question

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Heath Miller has improved his yardage total in every game this season, though he only had 11 catches in the first three games combined. He nearly matched that catch total Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with a career-high 10 receptions (on 11 targets), while setting a season-high with 85 yards and catching his first touchdown of the season.

Miller took full advantage of a fairly favorable matchup against Tampa Bay, and things look even better as three of Pittsburgh’s next four opponents entered Week 4 in the bottom-10 of the league against tight ends. The Jacksonville Jaguars (Week 5), Cleveland Browns (Week 6) and Indianapolis Colts (Week 8) all allowed at least 8.7 fantasy points per game to the position (ESPN scoring) entering this week’s action, so Miller is sure to be a viable starting option even with just two teams on a bye in each of those three weeks. The Steelers faced the Browns back in Week 1, and Miller had just three catches (on a season-low four targets) for 26 yards in that game, but his downside going forward is minimal as a favorite target of Ben Roethlisberger.

Miller should be fairly widely owned regardless of league host at this point, and his ownership percentage is sure to rise further coming off his performance on Sunday, but as of Monday morning he is available in 38 percent of Yahoo! leagues. With a late bye week (Week 12) Miller is a viable long-term roster stash at worst right now, and possibly a low-end TE1 on a weekly basis more often than you might think, until nearly the end of the regular season in fantasy leagues. That potential long-term impact makes Miller a top waiver wire addition ahead of Week 5, regardless of position.
