Fantasy Football Week 5 Sleeper: Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Now that Maurice Jones-Drew is of fantasy football irrelevance, it is time for another hyphenated name to take the spotlight. That would be TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who bursts into Week 5 — hyphenated name and all — as a huge TE1 sleeper.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s used their second-round pick to grab Seferian-Jenkins in this year’s draft and expected him to see the field right away. In Week 1, he went down with a foot injury that cost him the next two games, but in Week 4 he came back and was one of QB Mike Glennon’s top receivers, targeting him seven times in the passing game. Although the rookie out of Washington only had three receptions for 44 yards, he showed substantial upside for the coming weeks.

If you’re still not convinced, take a look at this: Seferian-Jenkins was on the field for every offensive snap in Week 4’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Not only is he an every-down player, but he is a huge target, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 262 pounds, which could mean crucial red-zone targets for fantasy owners. Another factor is Glennon’s chemistry with his tight ends. Last year he connected with Tim Wright 53 times for 565 yards and five touchdowns in just 13 games. Numbers that with Seferian-Jenkins’ pass-catching ability, he could easily surpass this season.

Seferian-Jenkins has a lot of potential to thrive in the Buccaneers’ offense with Glennon at the helm. For fantasy owners, he is available in 99 percent of ESPN leagues. He has a huge ceiling as a TE1 and will factor greatly in the Tampa Bay game plan. With a dwindling selection of TEs in fantasy football right now, it is the perfect moment to grab Seferian-Jenkins and reap the benefits in the upcoming weeks.

Week 5 Fantasy Forecast: five receptions for 51 yards and a TD
