The running back situation in fantasy football may be the worst its been in years. Some are injured and others are just not performing upto expectations. The Atlanta Falcons and their running backs fall into the latter. However, there is a bright spot on the team with Antone Smith and he should be added in deep leagues.

The Falcons have four running backs and they are all seeing playing time – Smith, Steven JacksonJacquizz Rodgers and Devonta Freeman. Smith has the least amount of carries, 11, but is making the most of each carry. He has 121 rushing yards, second-most on the team, and scored two touchdowns, tied with Jackson.

Smith is also an important part of the passing game. He has been targeted eight times and caught six passes for 156 yards and another two touchdowns. In Week 5 against the New York Giants, Smith took a short pass 74 yards and scored after breaking a tackle. He scored 14 fantasy points on Sunday.

Smith has scored double-digit points in three games and was the 20th-best running back heading into Week 5. However, unless you are in desperate need for a running back, he is too inconsistent to own in standard leagues. He should be added in deeper leagues (14-16 teams), but he would have to take over the starting job before he starts for a fantasy team.

Some owners are believers in Smith’s skills. He’s owned in 1.9 percent of ESPN.com leagues. He is a boom-or-bust kind of player, but has been more boom than bust recently. With the Chicago Bears coming up in Week 6, Smith could have another big game.
