After Ray Rice was released and suspended earlier in the season, many thought the new feature back in the Baltimore Ravens‘ offense would be Bernard Pierce. After all, Pierce was one of the best backups in the league in 2013 and he was already splitting carries with Rice. A couple of concussion injuries and fumbles gave a golden opportunity to journeyman Justin Forsett. Before the 2014 season, Forsett himself said he didn’t know if he would get another shot with another team. Luckily enough for the 28 year old, the Ravens have given him the opportunity and he hasn’t looked back.
After three seasons as a change-of-pace back with the Seattle Seahawks, and short stints with the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Forsett is here to stay in Baltimore and he completely deserves it. Something quick to note is that Forsett came to Baltimore to reunite with his head coach and offensive coordinator from Houston in Gary Kubiak. So far in the 2014 season, Forsett has carried the football 50 times for 297 yards and three touchdowns, which is yards-per-carry average of 5.9. Forsett has also caught 23 receptions for 118 yards. That being said, Forsett has been a spark plug for this offense, but he has also been a nice check-down for quarterback Joe Flacco.
The running back position is, and has always been, a mess in fantasy football. Every year, players come up out of nowhere and become important rocks for fantasy teams across the country. While his play could tail off in the coming weeks, it is smart to pickup Forsett while he is playing well. The Ravens have problems at times on offense moving the football. That being said, the Ravens will likely hand the ball off a ton to Forsett. If you’re in need of a running back from the waiver wire, Forsett is a good option for Week 6 and a nice flex player going forward.
