Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickup: TE Owen Daniels

Owen Daniels

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

As the Baltimore Ravens No. 1 tight end, Owen Daniels hasn’t had the breakout game many expected him to have with Dennis Pitta done for the season. With two top-tier tight ends on bye in Week 6, Daniels should be added in all leagues.

Daniels has been getting looks, but not making anything of those opportunities. He has nine catches for 113 yards in the last two games. He hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 2. Joe Flacco has been targeting veteran wide receiver Steve Smith more and more every week. Daniels is the third option in the Ravens offense.

As we know, Gary Kubiak loves to use his tight ends in the red zone. When both Kubiak and Daniels were with the Houston Texans, Daniels was a favorite red-zone target. Of his 29 touchdowns with the Texans, 24 of them came from within the red zone. In his first season with the Ravens, both of his touchdowns have been within two yards.

As I mentioned, there are some top tight ends on bye this week. Travis Kelce and Jimmy Graham will be unavailable for owners in Week 6. Of the tight ends not widely owned, Daniels has the best matchup. He is owned in just 8.1 percent of ESPN.com leagues.

Daniels and the Ravens travel south to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not counting the three points the Bucs gave up to Graham, they have allowed an average of 8.5 points to opposing tight ends, 11th-most in the league.

If you need a tight end because of a bye week or the one you currently own is not producing, Daniels could be the breakout performer you need this week.
