Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire Pickup: WR Odell Beckham

After letting veteran wide receiver Hakeem Nicks leave in the offseason, the New York Giants needed another downfield threat. The team chose to pick up Odell Beckham from LSU in the first round (12th overall) in this year’s draft and the wideout became a popular fantasy football pick late in drafts.

Unfortunately, the wideout has been hampered by a hamstring injury all year. He missed the first four weeks of the 2014 season, and after weeks of sitting on the sideline, Beckham finally made his debut this past week against the Atlanta Falcons.

In his 2014 debut, Beckham certainly lived up to the hype. He hauled in four balls for 44 yards and an important, go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. He was on the field for almost every offensive snap and the speedster quickly earned the trust of quarterback Eli Manning in his first professional game.

Manning is learning to use all the weapons in his arsenal, which now includes Beckham. Obviously Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle have carved out starting spots, while tight end Larry Donnell has also made a name for himself this year, but Beckham could emerge as a decent third wideout in this offense.

Beckham has all the potential in the world and the G-Men will give him plenty of targets on a weekly basis. He can be worth a spot as a WR5 right now in deeper fantasy formats and should be added up as soon as possible.
