Fantasy Football Stars: Panic or Patience

The NFL season is officially five weeks in; and with it the hopes and dreams of crushing your friends at fantasy football are at an all-time high or depressing low. There are guys that have helped you achieve your goal and others not so much. Five weeks in is definitely the time to make adjustments. Here are some stars you that have underachieved. Is it time to panic or be patient?

It's time to panic. Calvin Johnson had one reception for seven yards on Sunday to follow a two-catch, 12-yard performance the previous week. The Detroit Lions WR is now dealing with an ankle injury that makes him uncertain for nearly every start and for the duration of the game. This situation is developing a strong resemblance to that of Roddy White's last season. It's certainly becoming harder to start, trust or own Johnson at this point.

Jamaal Charles had a frustrating first two games before sitting out the third and freaking out anyone who had him on their roster with an ankle injury. However, the Chiefs' main playmaker exploded in Week 4, while racking up 18 carries for 92 yards and a TD with three catches for 16 yards and two more TDs. Charles came back down to earth in Week 5. It might be concerning up to this point, but patience is still best.

3. LeSean McCoy

LeSean McCoy has been pretty brutal to follow up a season in which he led the NFL in rushing yards. He has one touchdown all year and only managed to surpass the 80-yard mark on Sunday. Though not a stellar performance, Sunday was encouraging for the future of this pre-season consensus top-three pick in standard formats. Perhaps patience is still the way to go with the Philadelphia Eagles' star back.

Oh, boy -- it is absolutely time to panic. The Denver Broncos' Montee Ball was primed for a monster season (the kind we've come to expect from a Peyton Manning RB). Ball has not only heavily underwhelmed, but now seems likely to miss several weeks due to a strained groin. It might be time to start looking elsewhere, fantasy owners.

The New England Patriots have struggled thus far and seem to have taken a step back. Now, it should be noted that the Sunday Night Football rout of the Cincinnati Bengals was very impressive; particularly because it seemed to feature their two TE set that they love to run so much. Is Tim Wright capable of being Aaron Hernandez's replacement alongside Rob Gronkowski? Does one good week restore your faith in the fantasy value of Tom Brady?
