While “Johnny Football” is still riding the pine, the Cleveland Browns are doing alright with Brian Hoyer, sitting at 2-2. Hoyer is making the most of the receiving corps he has. One of those receivers who he is relying on heavily is fourth-receiver Andrew Hawkins.
Hoyer is targeting Hawkins the most out of all of his other receivers. Hawkins leads the team with 41 targets and 24 receptions. The second closest is Miles Austin with 24 and 16. Hawkins is also the team leader with 270 yards. The only downside is that he hasn’t scored a touchdown this season.
Hawkins kicked off the season with eight catches for 87 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers, their Week 6 opponent. He followed that outing with 13 receptions for 157 yards in the next two games. The Steelers defense isn’t the defense of old and the Browns offense is coming along nicely. This could surprisingly turn into a shootout.
The Browns have decent weapons in Austin and Hawkins. Travis Benjamin is a nice No. 2 wide out and Jordan Cameron is on his way back to being a top-five tight end. Despite all of the other options, Hawkins is the Browns leading receiver and will play like it in Week 6.
Hawkins is a nice PPR option, averaging six receptions per game. If you own him in a PPR league, I would start him. If you’re in a standard league, you probably have much better options and should leave Hawkins on your bench. He does have the skill to go off on the Steelers.
Expect another seven receptions for 84 yards. I do think Hawkins will get his first touchdown of the season, too.
