Fantasy Football Week 6 Start Or Sit: Eric Ebron

In Week 6, the Detroit Lions are going to have a huge void to fill, with star wide receiver Calvin Johnson most likely out with an ankle injury. Those are big shoes to fill, and will take a group effort to do so. Wide receivers Corey Fuller and Jeremy Ross are expected to have bigger roles, but the player who may benefit the most is tight end Eric Ebron. Ebron makes for an intriguing option in fantasy football this week.

Ebron is the Lions’ biggest matchup nightmare outside of Johnson, as he is athletically gifted and is a huge target at 6-foot-4, 265 pounds. While the Lions are not going up against the most favorable matchup for tight ends this week in the Minnesota Vikings, the circumstances of the offense could lead to a bigger role for Ebron this week.

With Johnson more than likely sidelined, Ebron should be looking at an increased role in the offense. Couple that with the fact fellow tight end Joseph Fauria is dealing with an ankle injury and still isn’t playing, Ebron will see the field. If the Lions want to truly utilize his skills, they will line him up split out wide, much like he did in college at North Carolina.

In Week 4 against the New York Jets, Ebron caught his first-career touchdown. He almost made it two weeks in a row, but his touchdown reception was overturned by the referees against the Buffalo Bills last week. What is keeping Ebron from making it three weeks in a row that he receives a chance at the end zone?

Ebron is shaping up as a boom-or-bust option for fantasy owners in Week 6. This week will easily be the biggest he is involved in the offensive game plan with the injuries the Lions are facing, making Ebron an intriguing play. He makes for an extremely risky play this week, but if you are stuck with little options and going with the touchdown or bust approach, Ebron is a good candidate. He is not a recommended play, but for fantasy owners in a pinch Ebron offers strong boom potential.
