Fantasy Football Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Branden Oliver

Branden Oliver has been a savior for any fantasy owner who has picked him up in either of the last two weeks. If he is still available in your league, go place a waiver claim and pray that he falls in your hands.

In Oliver’s last two games for the San Diego Chargers, he has recorded 306 total yards and three touchdowns. Over 200 of those yards came on the ground. He has been compared to former Chargers RB, Darren Sproles. The difference between Oliver and Sproles is that Oliver does most of his damage on the ground.

When it comes to smaller, speedy backs like Oliver, it is extremely rare that most of their production comes from the run game. At the same time, it is encouraging. Many times in fantasy, players like Sproles, Danny Woodhead and Shane Vereen are boom or bust. Oliver can get it done in any way, which is fortunate for all current and future Oliver owners.

There have been two starts and two highly productive games for Oliver. The only thing that stands in his way of having the same type of numbers moving forward are the returns of Ryan Mathews and Donald Brown. There is no doubt that Oliver has been a better option than Mathews or Brown. The question is how much of his production will be cut once those two other backs return.

I don’t see Brown being much of a factor, especially after what Oliver has shown. Matthews will probably regain the starting role. So, if Oliver is still available, enjoy his fantasy points while you still can.
