Brandin Cooks Start or Sit Fantasy Football Week 7

Will TE Jimmy Graham suit up for the New Orleans Saints in their Week 7 contest against the Detroit Lions? This question is very important if you have NFL rookie wide receiver Brandin Cooks on your fantasy football team.

At the moment, Cooks is the No. 2 option in the Saints’ passing game (behind Graham) with 32 receptions on 42 targets and 255 receiving yards. However, Cooks only has one touchdown reception through Week 6, and he’s only averaging an unspeakable eight yards per catch for a speedster.

Cooks is lightning fast, but New Orleans has refused to throw the deep ball to anybody on their team, as Drew Brees has become a dink-and-dunk quarterback all of a sudden, with a yards per pass average of 7.22 — his lowest average over the last four seasons. This foolishness has to stop, and if Saints head coach Sean Payton doesn’t get his act together soon in regards to their unfamiliar passing philosophy, then Cooks’ fantasy owners are only going to thrive in PPR leagues.

Graham’s shoulder injury was initially thought to keep him out for about three weeks, so all the talk of his suddenly improved health status might just be head coach mind games, and not reality. If you have Cooks on your fantasy squad, monitor the Graham situation as the week progresses, but don’t hesitate to start him as a WR 2 or at the flex spot, even if Graham plays.

Graham may just serve as a decoy on the field on Sunday and that would finally make Cooks the No. 1 option in the passing game — much to your delight.
