Fantasy Football Week 7 Start or Sit: Andre Holmes

Andre Holmes Start or Sit Fantasy Football Week 7

The winless Oakland Raiders are arguably the worst team in the NFL, but fantasy football breakout wide receiver Andre Holmes has made them a team worth watching.

Over the last two games, Holmes and rookie quarterback Derek Carr have looked like a healthy version of Brandon Marshall and Jay Cutler together, as they’ve linked up on 20 targets for 195 yards through the air with three touchdowns on 22.6 yards per pass. Simply put, they’re going deep and cashing in big time.

On offense, the Raiders are next to last in the run game (ranked 31st) and they can’t stop the run on defense either (ranked 31st). However, the opponents that they’ll face on Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals, also struggle to run the ball (ranked 30th) and they can’t stop the pass on defense (ranked 32nd). Translation — Sunday’s contest will be a shootout between the teams, and you definitely want to make sure that you have Carr’s most dangerous weapon in the passing game in your fantasy starting lineup at the WR position.

Holmes has the benefit of having veteran wide receiver James Jones on his team, so top-tier cornerbacks like the Cardinals’ Patrick Peterson will have to pick their poison. So far this season, Peterson has struggled mightily to make an impact in the secondary, as seen by Arizona’s low-ranked pass defense. Even if he tries to shadow Holmes, he’ll have to revert back to his All-Pro form. I’m not placing any bets on Peterson.

Holmes should be on your team by now, whether you claimed him off the Week 7 waiver wire or you picked him up as a free agent. If you’re not loaded at the WR position, start Holmes as a WR2 or at the flex spot and expect to see great results.
