Emmanuel Sanders Fantasy Football Week 7 Outlook

Emmanuel Sanders Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

All anyone can talk about this week, at least before the Percy Harvin trade, is Peyton Manning and his quest for 508 career touchdown passes this Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers. One of the beneficiaries of this is going to be Emmanuel Sanders.

Sanders is second on the team in targets with 48 and receiving yards with 473, yet leads the team in catches with 35, an average of seven per contest. Manning is likely going to be throwing the ball early and often in this contest, not only because he is chasing Brett Favre’s record, but because the 49ers feature a stout run defense and the Denver Broncos are still without starting running back Montee Ball. Ronnie Hillman filled in admirably last week against the New York Jets, but he is going to have a much tougher test this week against the 49ers. Additionally, the 49ers’ secondary is banged up, with Tramaine Brock, Chris Culliver and Jimmie Ward all listed as questionable for the game.

The one caveat when it comes to Sanders is that he hasn’t made his way into the end zone so far this season and has scored more than two touchdowns in a season just once in his career. When the Broncos get into the red zone, their main targets are the Thomas tandem, Julius and Demaryius. So far this season, they have seen 21 of Manning’s 29 pass attempts inside the 20 and have caught nine of his 10 touchdown passes. Sanders has caught all four of his red-zone targets, but for just 23 yards and no scores.

As a result, Sanders looks to be a strong play in point-per-reception leagues, but in standard leagues where touchdowns are of utmost importance, he is likely a strong FLEX play as he will likely have to catch a deep touchdown pass from Manning in order to find pay dirt. Look for Sanders to get seven catches for 85 yards and no touchdowns in Sunday night’s contest.
