Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Denard Robinson

Hands down, the hottest waiver-wire pickup of Week 8 is going to be Denard Robinson. The Jacksonville Jaguars running back is available in most fantasy football leagues at the moment, and he’s definitely worth a roster spot in all formats.

On Sunday, Robinson ran for 127 yards and a TD on 22 carries against the Cleveland Browns. The former Michigan Wolverine got the start over Storm Johnson in Toby Gerhart’s absence, and for the first time this season, the Jaguars’ rushing attack didn’t look hopeless. Prior to Sunday’s contest, the Jags averaged a league-worst 69.5 YPG on the ground. It would be very surprising if Robinson’s performance that nearly doubled that production didn’t earn him the starting job, even when Gerhart returns from his foot injury.

As the season gets older, quality waiver wire pickups at all positions, especially running backs, are harder to come by. A young running back with big upside and playmaking ability like Robinson is a very nice addition at this point. Consider yourself lucky if you land him.

Robinson is not just someone to stash on the bench. If he is indeed named the starter in real life, he’ll be startable in fantasy football as well for the rest of the season. Of the Jags’ remaining games, the team will face just one run defense currently ranked in the top 10 when they take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 15.

We may even see the former quarterback earn a few extra fantasy points on some trick plays in the near future. Regardless, Robinson is about as good of a waiver wire grab as you’re going to get this late in the season.
