Anthony Dixon Fantasy Football Week 8 Projection

Around this time last season, Anthony Dixon was getting garbage-time carries for the San Francisco 49ers, as he was behind starter Frank Gore and change-of-pace back Kendall Hunter. Now with the Buffalo Bills, Dixon will be thrown into the fire on Sunday in Week 8 against the New York Jets and their top-five run defense.

With C.J. Spiller done for the year with a broken collarbone and Fred Jackson out a few weeks because of a groin injury, the Bills will rely mainly on Dixon, but they will also rely on Bryce Brown to be the change-of-pace back. While Brown has a history of success in this league from his stint with the Philadelphia Eagles when LeSean McCoy was injured, logic tells me Dixon will get most of the carries on Sunday. After the injuries to Spiller and Jackson, Dixon carried the football 13 times, while Brown didn’t even get a touch.

Although the Bills are 4-3 and have a few comparable matchups over the next few weeks, the Bills are simply horrible on offense. With E.J. Manuel failing to progress as a quarterback in this league, Kyle Orton has taken over the starting duties. While Orton is a decent quarterback, he throws the football too much and makes his share of mistakes. Knowing that, the Bills will likely run the ball a lot on Sunday, despite going up against one of the league’s most vaunted run defenses. Dixon is a decent RB2 play if he is in your fantasy football lineup for Sunday.
