Jimmy Graham Fantasy Football Week 8 Projection

Don’t worry about last week’s donut performance from TE Jimmy Graham. The New Orleans Saints said they expected him to miss 2-3 weeks after their Week 6 bye, only to turn him into a last-minute game time active player in Week 7. With him being a last minute addition, he certainly was not in for the majority of the offense’s gameplan, and as a result, he only saw two targets with no receptions — an atypical performance from the two time Pro Bowler.

This week he heads into a matchup against the Green Bay Packers which should provide Graham plenty of opportunity to rebound. The Packers give up the eighth-fewest points to the tight end position this season, but that doesn’t have me worried. The Saints have been performing under expectations this season, whereas we just saw the Packers lay into the Carolina Panthers. Certainly, the Saints could reach their potential this week and give the Packers a run for their money, but I’m expecting them to be playing catch-up for a majority of the game.

That being said, they’ll be looking at their passing game often, with Drew Brees hooking up with his targets deep. And though Graham is a tight end, nearly 20 percent of his targets are over 15 yards.  With that in mind, his deep target rate should fall closer to 40 percent this week. He typically sees 10 targets, but he’s likely to see more balls this week while trying to take control of the game down field.

With those figures, Graham should take in about nine receptions for 120 yards with at least one touchdown. He could definitely have two TDs this week with an aggressive attack, but I think coach Sean Payton will try to mix up the calls in the red zone and give some run plays to Mark Ingram to throw the Packers’ defense off after covering deeper passes.

Graham is in store for a revival this week, and fantasy owners are poised to be the beneficiaries.
