Fantasy Football Top Ten RBs: Week 8

We all know that the NFL has become a passer's paradise. Still, while real football teams have built their success on quarterbacks' arms, unless you're carrying Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck, your best chance of success is to bring a strong running game.

There are plenty of backs out there who get touches, but you need to know who will produce big numbers. Let's take a look at our ten favorites to get you the "W" in Week 8.

Ellington’s involvement in Arizona’s offense has been steadily increasing over recent weeks, and that will only help as he takes on a Philadelphia Eagles defense that has been vulnerable on the ground this year. He also benefits greatly in the passing game, where he’ll get plenty of check-down looks from Carson Palmer. Even with just two touchdowns this year, he's a guy you want in your lineup.

It’s been a tough year for “Shady”, once a fantasy stud, but it’s his capability for the big play breakout that makes him too valuable to pass up. He’s gotten 19 carries or more in all but one game this year, and even though the matchup isn’t great, I think we see McCoy build on his huge Week 6 performance against the Giants.

8. Ben Tate

Slowed down by the Jaguars of all teams, perhaps Tate and the Browns were taking things a bit lightly coming into Week 7. Considering Tate’s performances against Tennessee and Pittsburgh since returning from injury, Oakland's weak defense shouldn’t give him the same troubles this week. Ball control is the name of the game for the Browns.

7. Justin Forsett

The Cincinnati Bengals' rush defense can best be described as “nonexistent” over recent weeks. Giving up a whopping 146.3 yards per game on the ground, expect the Ravens to feed Forsett early and often. Forsett is still dealing with a bit of a committee approach with Bernard Pierce, but the volume favors Forsett producing at a high level.

6. Lamar Miller

The Jaguars' defense bowed up a little bit last week, and really it’s not so much their ability to stop the run as their horrid offensive production that has made them the doormat of the league for much of the year. That said, Miller has produced consistently since taking over the Dolphins’ rushing duties, and that trend should continue in Week 8 as the Dolphins lean on their explosive back.

Charles’s owners will be relieved to know that he did not suffer a concussion in last Sunday’s game, which could have pulled him out of the lineup in favor of backup Knile Davis. Considering how much the Chiefs are likely to feed him the ball, he’ll have every opportunity to score against the Rams this Sunday.

4. Marshawn Lynch

The Carolina Panthers are this week’s opponent, and as the owners of the league’s 26th-ranked rushing defense, they should be just what “Beast Mode” needs to get back to producing at a high fantasy level. Russell Wilson has taken some carries away, but that won’t keep Lynch from getting his chances in Week 8, and you know he's hungry to get back in the end zone.

3. Matt Forte

Despite a couple of poor weeks at the start of the season, Forte has found a groove in the Bears’ offense. If he’s not rushing consistently, Jay Cutler still relies on him as a valuable outlet in the passing game, on pace for a record number of receptions for a running back. Now that he’s getting into the end zone more consistently, the Bears will look to Forte to help keep the ball out of Tom Brady’s capable hands.

2. Arian Foster

Regaining his place near the top of the fantasy RB ranks in 2014, Foster has at least 20 carries in five games this year. His one poor performance came in a game he probably shouldn’t have even played in Week 4 coming off a hamstring injury. Considering that he’s the most reliable weapon the Texans possess, expect another healthy dose of Foster again in Week 8.

In the midst of a career year, Murray has gotten no fewer than 22 carries all year, and although Washington is allowing just 3.8 yards per carry to opponents this year, Murray also took the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks for over 110 yards each, scoring in both games. As the Cowboys surge, Murray should continue his streak at home this Sunday.
