Predicting the Top Fantasy Performer From Redskins vs. Cowboys

You’re always going out on a limb when you try and make bold predictions as to what will happen when the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins get together on Sundays, because each and every year proves that no one has a single clue as to what will actually transpire that day. One year it’s Pierre Garcon making Brandon Carr look like he’s a pee wee leaguer as he runs circles around him and the next it’s Troy Hambrick looking like he’s the next Jim Brown as he shreds his way through the porous Washington defense. But one thing you can be certain of is whenever these two teams get together there is always one player who steps up and becomes borderline legendary in the winning team’s town that year because of his stellar play in the NFL‘s biggest and most historical rivalry game.

Well for all of you fantasy owners out there, there is only one player to keep an eye on in this year’s matchup and that player happens to be Dez Bryant. He only played the Redskins once his rookie season, and even though it was only his first game in the league he still managed to get eight catches for 56 yards in that game. And if you look at his career numbers against them, he has 36 receptions, 512 yards and four touchdowns in just seven games.

Now I realize those aren’t eye-popping numbers, but in those matchups he was going against one of the NFL’s best cornerbacks in DeAngelo Hall, who is notorious for stepping up and having some of his best games against the Cowboys. Well this year Hall is injured and will miss the rest of the season; so that means instead of facing the veteran Hall, Bryant will be facing inexperienced corners like rookie Bashaud Breeland and second-year pro David Amerson. I would expect the Redskins to roll help to these corners in the way of safeties Ryan Clark and Brandon Meriweather, but it’s just a matter of time before they have to creep up and provide support to stop the running attack of the Cowboys. And when they do expect to see Bryant take full advantage of the single coverage.

Think about the setting for a second; it’s Monday Night Football, it’s the game’s biggest rivalry and it is all happening in Jerryworld! Bryant will be looking to put on a show, and I expect him to to the tune of eight receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
