Zach Mettenberger Fantasy Football Week 8 Projection

Tennessee Titans, Zach Mettenberger, Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

After losing last week to the lowly Washington Redskins, the Tennessee Titans have basically a must-win game against the rival Houston Texans that has a ton of playoff implications. Now 2-5, the Titans will be going up against a 3-4 team that has lost four out of their last five games. Because of their inconsistency and stagnancy on the offensive side of the ball, reports came out of Tennessee that the Titans will be starting rookie Zach Mettenberger in Week 8.

Jake Locker and Charlie Whitehurst have played terribly through seven games of the 2014 season and giving the rookie with  upside an opportunity to show how he can cope with an NFL game is fair to say the least. At LSU, Mettenberger improved every year. While he is still very raw, Mettenberger looks the part for an NFL quarterback at 6-foot-5, 245 pounds. People have compared Mettenberger to Ben Roethlisberger for their strong arms, frame and toughness in the pocket.

I’m a fan of Mettenberger and his future prospects as a quarterback in this league, but if you believe he can have a big impact in Week 8, it is absurd really. Sure, Mettenberger is talented and he has some decent weapons, but he will be going up against one of the league’s best secondaries and perhaps the league’s best defensive player in J.J. Watt.

The Texans are going to blitz a lot and make Mettenberger feel uncomfortable. Because of that, the Titans will turn the ball over a few times. It also doesn’t help that Tennessee will also be starting a talented, yet unproven, rookie running back in Bishop Sankey, which will be his second professional start. Mettenberger has the ability to have a good future in this league, but his importance in Week 8 for fantasy football looks bleak.

Fantasy Football Week 8 Projection: 19 completions on 31 passing attempts for 195 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.
